Mater Academy East, a public charter school, has been serving the Little Havana community in Miami, FL. for over a decade by providing the children in the area with the highest level of quality education. Mater Academy East strives not only to hold its students to high academic standards but also to foster a nurturing school environment and focus on character development. Throughout the years while serving Kindergarten through 5th-grade students, Mater Academy East has garnered a number of prestigious awards and accomplishments that are a testament to the hard work of its staff and administration.
Mater Academy East was awarded an "A" for the 14th consecutive year. Mater Academy East has prided itself on consistently being amongst the highest performing schools, not only in its district but in the entire state of Florida. They have scored amongst the highest in their district in the FSA math, FCAT science, FSA reading, and writing assessments. Due to these scores, the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County bestowed the "Platinum" award on them for three consecutive years. In 2006, they were recognized as a top 10 Charter School at the annual State Charter School's Conference. This is also the second time that Mater Academy East has been designated as a Florida Title I Distinguished School. Perhaps their greatest accomplishment has been its most recent one. It was given by the United States Department of Education to a mere 304 schools nationwide this year. Only two of which are located in South Florida with Mater Academy East being one of them. Mater Academy East is very proud of its accomplishments and is poised to continue its success.
Mater Academy East continuously participates in various community service projects and fundraisers with organizations such as Amigos for Kids, The American Heart Association, Publix Supermarkets, and McDonald's. Students also continue to participate in clubs and team sports including the Chess Club, the Cooking Club (partnership with Common Threads), Science Club, and Art Club. Students also participate in school-based productions such the Hispanic Heritage Festival, Holiday Show, Student Live Art Auction Event, and the End of the Year Show.
