Beatriz Riera Beatriz Riera
Director & Elementary School Principal

Beatriz Riera, the founding principal of Mater Academy East Charter School, has been at the helm of one of the most successful elementary schools in South Florida since 1999. Ms. Riera earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University and began her career as a teacher for Miami Dade County Public Schools in 1997. Shortly after, she earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and became the founding principal of Mater Academy East Charter School in 1999. Over the course of her career, Ms. Riera has been the recipient of several accolades for her work as a principal as well as in the community. Under her direction, Mater Academy East has been an A+ school for 10 consecutive years, met AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) since the school's inception, was recognized as one of the top 50 schools in the state of Florida, a three-time award winner of the Superintendent/School Board of Miami Dade County Public Schools Platinum Award, and received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award in 2010. The school is also a two-time winner of the Title I Distinguished School's Award, was recognized as a top 10 charter school at the Florida Charter School Conference in 2006, and was also recognized for Educational Design Excellence in American School and University that same year. Mater Academy East has also been SACS accredited by the Advanced Ed since the 2009-2010 school year.

Among her personal accomplishments was a proclamation from the mayor of the city of Miami for her award winning tenure of innovative approaches to teaching and learning with rigorous and targeted performance goals and objectives. The proclamation also applauded her distinctive vision that shapes an educational program which creates a competitive edge for her students. Most recently she has been appointed the director of Mater Academy East Charter School which encompasses an elementary, middle, and high school. In this new role, she will now be given the unique opportunity to take part in each and every student's journey throughout their time at Mater Academy East. This includes the moment that they walk through the doors for the very first time as kindergarten students, to them walking across the stage to receive their high school diplomas.

Ms. Aguirre Ms. Jenny Aguirre
Middle High School Principal

Ms. Aguirre began her career in education over 15 years ago at Mater Academy East. During this time, she has served in the capacity of teacher assistant, special education teacher/liaison, general education teacher, and assistant principal prior to her appointment as principal of Mater Academy East Middle/High. Ms. Aguirre received her Bachelor's degree from Barry University in special education and went on to get her Master's degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education. Throughout her 15 year tenure at Mater Academy East, Ms. Aguirre has worked arduously to create a caring and positive learning environment at our school. She has accomplished this by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff members, as well as our community partners. Ms. Aguirre's ultimate goal for each and every one of her students is to prepare them to become world class citizens and lifelong learners who can master the challenges of the 21st century.

Assistant Principal

Ms. Jennifer Carrion's educational career began as a teacher at Mater Academy East in 2011, after having graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University. Not only has she taught at various grade levels but has also served in the capacity of a grade level chair, test chair, reading coach and lead teacher. While serving the students at Mater Academy East, she decided to continue her own education by earning a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. She now proudly serves as the Assistant Principal at Mater Academy East, where she hopes to continue to make a positive impact in the academic achievement of our students.
